Balaton, Recreational water area in Bartodziejach, Bydgoszcz, Poland
Balaton is a recreational water body in the Bartodziejach district covering about 5 hectares with varied shoreline sections. The banks include sandy beach areas, a peninsula formation, and reinforced edges built with stone gabions.
The water body formed in a clay pit from a brick factory operating since 1886 and filled with water after World War II when extraction stopped. The site transformed when industrial use ended.
The lake serves as a gathering spot where locals swim in summer and use the frozen surface for winter activities. It has become woven into the daily rhythm of the neighborhood.
The southern shore has a small marina and sailing school operated by a sports club since 2008. The location offers good conditions for various water sports and attracts visitors with different interests.
The lake developed alongside the construction of the Bartodzieje residential district during the 1970s. This parallel growth made it a core part of the neighborhood from its inception.
