Water tower at Karłowice in Wrocław

The Water tower at Karłowice is a 63-meter (207 ft) structure designed in medieval castle style with intricate stone carvings and detailed reliefs throughout its exterior. A substantial observation platform at the top provides visitors access to views from the summit.

The tower was built between 1914 and 1915 and served as a military observation post during the 1945 Siege of Breslau. Despite intense bombardment during the war, the structure survived and endured through this turbulent period.

The tower displays detailed stone carvings with winged creatures at its base, created by sculptors Taschner and Bednorz. These artistic embellishments give the structure a distinctive character that goes beyond its practical water storage purpose.

The tower is accessible by internal stairs leading up to the observation platform, requiring a climb to reach the top. Visitors should plan to explore the site on foot since nearby amenities are limited in this residential area.

From the observation platform, visitors could see the Sudety Mountains in the distance under clear conditions. A red flag was hoisted as a signal to indicate when viewing conditions were at their best.
