Zadni Ornak

Zadni Ornak is a mountain in the Western Tatras that rises to 1,867 meters and features two distinct peaks linked by a lateral ridge. The rock formations along the ridge show visible layers and unusual striations that catch the eye as you climb.

Mining operations for metal minerals took place in the area around this peak during the 15th century. The remains of these early extraction activities can still be spotted in the surrounding landscape today.

The mountain lies within Tatra Mountains National Park, where strict environmental protection measures preserve natural geological formations and local fauna.

The hike starts from Siwa Polana on marked trails and takes roughly 4.5 hours to gain about 960 meters of elevation. The steep terrain demands sturdy footwear and adequate physical preparation before attempting the climb.

The rock layers consist of quartzitic sandstone from the Triassic period, giving the mountain its distinctive appearance. This geological type shows visible bands that help guide hikers along the route.
