Ornak, Mountain summit in Tatra National Park, Poland
Ornak is a mountain summit in the Western Tatra Mountains within Tatra National Park, reaching 1854 meters in elevation. From its top, hikers can look out over multiple valleys and neighboring peaks.
The Tatra Mountains, including Ornak, formed natural borders for Polish settlements across centuries and provided essential resources. Over time, established routes developed across this summit and were maintained by local communities.
Local mountain guides from nearby villages share traditional knowledge about routes and seasonal weather patterns. They help visitors understand how local communities have always lived in relationship with these mountains.
Marked trails from the Kiry parking area lead to the summit, with the ascent taking about four hours through forest paths. Hikers should prepare for changing weather and bring good shoes and plenty of water.
The summit connects two major valleys, Koscieliska and Chocholowska, allowing hikers to experience two very different mountain environments on a single hike. This connection makes it possible to explore the variety of the mountain landscape in one day.
