Bacówka na Maciejowej, Mountain hut in Gorce Mountains, Poland
Bacówka na Maciejowej is a mountain hut situated on Polana Przysłop pod Maciejową in the Gorce Mountains at 852 meters elevation. The wooden building accommodates 25 guests across double, four-person, and multi-bed rooms with shared kitchens, dining spaces, and bathrooms on the lower floors.
The wooden shelter was built in September 1977 by carpenters from Dzianisz following the architectural design of Stanisław Karpiel. Its construction reflected local building practices and expanded access for mountain hikers in the region.
The interior spaces display carved wooden pieces created by graduates of the Antoni Kenar School of Fine Arts in Zakopane, including chairs, notice boards, and partition walls. These handmade elements give the shelter its distinctive character and connect it to local craftsmanship.
Visitors should bring warm clothing in layers, as weather at this elevation can change rapidly and becomes harsh in winter. The hut serves as a good base for hiking, with access routes varying depending on the season.
Winter guests can rent snowshoes and access two nearby ski lifts for descent, while summer visitors find berry picking opportunities along the surrounding trails. These seasonal activities transform the shelter into a year-round destination for different types of outdoor pursuits.
