Muzeum Zachodnio-Kaszubskie w Bytowie

The West Kashubian Museum occupies the northern wing of a medieval castle, using the Mill Tower, Powder Tower, and defensive walls to house its collections. The building itself becomes part of the experience, with rooms displaying different aspects of regional life and heritage.

The building dates to medieval times and was connected to the Griffin dynasty, whose rule shaped the region for centuries. The castle later experienced the shifting powers that changed the course of regional history.

The second floor displays works that Kashubians have created for generations: carved wood, paintings, embroidered textiles, and traditional dress reflect local identity. These objects reveal how people in this region have kept their traditions alive through the objects they make.

The museum operates during weekday and weekend hours, though it is closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly. Allow enough time to see both the collections and explore the castle structure at your own pace.

The ground floor exhibits everyday tools and objects that Kashubian farmers and fishers used for centuries. These items reveal the practical side of life in this region, a perspective that is often overlooked compared to the artistic works displayed above.
