Railway bridge over Boruja in Bytów

The railway bridge over the Boruja is a brick arch structure with six curved spans supported by granite pillars. The construction rises about 20 meters above the water and features decorative elements on its supporting columns.

The structure was completed in 1884 following the design principles of Roman aqueducts and was meant to serve the Bytów-Korzybie railway line. However, this route never operated with trains.

The coats of arms carved into the bridge pillars represent different regional powers and institutions connected to the railway history of this area. These decorations tell the story of the political landscape at the time the bridge was built.

The structure can be viewed from the surrounding area, with good vantage points near the railway station. Visitors can observe the construction from different angles and appreciate the stonework details.

During the economic hardship of the 1920s, an image of this unused bridge appeared on 2-mark banknotes issued locally in Bytów. These emergency notes show how important the structure had become to the town's identity despite never serving its intended purpose.
