Igliczna, Mountain summit in Śnieżnik Massif, Poland.
Spitzigerberg is a mountain summit in the Śnieżnik Massif in Poland, sitting at 845 meters (about 2,770 feet) above sea level and looking out over the Kłodzko Valley and the surrounding ranges. A pilgrimage church stands at the top, giving the peak a distinctive silhouette visible from below.
The Maria Śnieżna Sanctuary was founded in 1781 following reports that a wooden Madonna figure survived powerful winds at the site without moving. That event marked the beginning of a pilgrimage tradition that has continued without interruption to the present day.
The sanctuary near the top holds a revered image of Our Lady of the Snows, drawing pilgrims from across the region throughout the year. A mechanical nativity scene is on display year-round inside, giving visitors a chance to observe the handcrafted figures up close.
The summit can be reached by car along a winding road from Marianówka or on foot via several trails, including the Main Sudeten Trail. Parking is available at more than one spot, so you can choose how much walking you want to do depending on where you leave your car.
The name Spitzigerberg is of German origin, a reminder that this area was once home to a German-speaking population before it became part of Poland after World War II. Old maps and a few inscriptions in the area still carry traces of that earlier layer of history.
