Kolonia mieszkaniowa przy ul. Wspólnej is a residential complex built around a large central courtyard with a rectangular layout. The buildings feature three stories with mansards and loggias facing inward toward the shared outdoor space.
The complex was built in 1927 based on architect Wladyslaw Czarnecki's design. It was constructed to provide new housing for residents relocated from the Lazarz neighborhood ahead of the 1929 National Exhibition.
The complex shows influences from Vienna's social housing movement, visible in how it was designed to bring residents together. The shared courtyard and connected passages reflect this philosophy of community living.
The courtyard is open for visitors to walk through, with green spaces and play areas to explore. Two passages running east to west make it easy to navigate the complex and see different sides of the buildings.
The inner courtyard covers approximately 8400 square meters, making it one of the largest residential courtyards of its era. This generous open space was an innovative feature that gave residents room to gather and spend time outdoors.
