Krzyż na Bruszni, Monumental cross on Brusznia Hill near Kielce, Poland.
The Krzyż na Bruszni is a 30-meter tall metal cross standing on Brusznia Hill in the Holy Cross Mountains region. The structure dominates the hilltop landscape and offers expansive views across the surrounding hills and valleys from its elevated position.
The site became important during the January Uprising of 1863 when Polish insurgents gathered there before planning an attack on Russian forces stationed in Kielce. The first wooden cross was built in 1917, establishing this location as a lasting memorial to that turbulent period.
The cross serves as a gathering place for scout ceremonies and commemorative gatherings that bring people together throughout the year. It has become an important meeting point where visitors pause to reflect and participate in local traditions.
The site is best reached by following the red marked trail that connects Chęciny to Kielce, which is easy to navigate year-round. The hilltop location is open and accessible, though the approach can be muddy during wet seasons so sturdy shoes are recommended.
Six different crosses have occupied this hilltop over the decades, each one replaced due to weather damage or structural failure. The current metal structure is the newest version, installed in 2017 after the previous iterations gradually deteriorated.
