Osiedle Hansenów w Warszawie

Osiedle Hansenów is a residential complex in Warsaw stretching about 1.8 kilometers across 22 interconnected buildings. The structures contain roughly 1,800 apartments spread over four to six floors, with elevators installed in alternating sections.

The complex was built between 1968 and 1974 by architects Oskar and Zofia Hansen. It became Poland's first realization of their Linear Continuous System approach to residential design.

The estate features covered walkways on each floor where residents naturally cross paths and interact. These shared spaces become places where daily life unfolds and neighbors build connections.

The estate sits within an excavation several meters deep and connects to surrounding areas by footbridges. Graphic signage throughout helps visitors and residents navigate the sprawling complex.

Residents use the terraces and galleries for far more than just passing through, turning them into genuine outdoor living spaces. The estate became an experimental space for how people could live together differently, which still captures architects' attention.
