Osnos Tenement House in Warsaw

The Osnos Tenement House at Twarda Street 28 is a four-story brick building with preserved interior decorations surrounded by modern skyscrapers near Rondo ONZ in central Warsaw. Built in 1911, it retains its original architectural elements despite modifications made during the 1960s.

The building was constructed in 1911 and became part of the Warsaw Ghetto from 1940 to 1942 during German occupation. Its history reflects the dramatic changes that reshaped this district during that period.

The ground floor served as the neighborhood's commercial heart, housing shops and services like a grocery store, wine merchant, and hair salon. These businesses met the everyday needs of residents living in the surrounding area.

The building received official monument status in 2019 and can be easily viewed from the street as you walk through the neighborhood. Its central location makes it accessible on foot during a walk through Warsaw.

Marked lines on the pavement around the building show where the former ghetto wall once stood between 1940 and 1943. These physical markers help visitors connect with the site's difficult history.
