Szklany Dom, International Style house in Podkowa Leśna, Poland
Szklany Dom is a residential building from the interwar period featuring extensive glass walls and minimalist characteristics of modern design. The structure comprises two sections: a northern wing constructed first, followed by a southern brick extension.
Construction took place between 1928 and 1932 under architect Maksymilian Goldberg's design for writer Irena Krzywicka. The building represents the modernist approach that gained ground in Poland during the interwar years.
The residence served as a gathering place for writers and intellectuals who met here regularly during the 1930s. These spaces represent a moment when modernist design and literary culture came together in daily life.
The building sits in Podkowa Leśna at Sosnowa Street 9 and displays the original modernist features today. Current owners have maintained and preserved it through careful restoration work.
One room in the southern brick section served as Podkowa Leśna's first public library. This space shows how the private residence also fulfilled community functions.
