Ascensor da Bica, Funicular in São Paulo district, Lisbon, Portugal.

This yellow funicular railway connects Rua de São Paulo with Calçada do Combro through a 260-meter track on a steep slope.

Engineer Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard designed this transportation system, which started operations in 1892 using a water counterbalancing mechanism.

The funicular received National Monument of Portugal status, representing the engineering achievements of Portuguese transportation in the late 19th century.

Passengers can board the funicular from Monday to Friday between 7:00 and 21:00, with modified weekend hours from 9:00 to 21:00.

Two cars moving simultaneously in opposite directions transport passengers through the narrow Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo street.
