Biscainhos Museum, History museum in Braga, Portugal.
The museum sits in a residential palace from the 17th century with grand halls decorated with traditional Portuguese tiles and painted wooden ceilings. The rooms display furniture, ceramics, Chinese porcelain, and European glasswork spanning three centuries.
Construction began in 1665 for a doctor and his wife and took several decades to complete. Basque craftsmen shaped the architecture and left their cultural imprint on the building.
The name honors the Basque craftsmen who shaped the building and left their mark on it. Visitors can see their skilled work reflected in the ornate rooms and decorative details throughout the house.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday with two visiting sessions each day. Guided tours are available by request and help visitors understand the collections and architectural details better.
The garden sprawls across about one hectare divided into terraces with granite columns and water features. The arrangement of poplars follows French Baroque patterns and shows the European influences that shaped the palace.
