Praia do Burgau

Praia do Burgau is an Atlantic beach on the western Algarve coast that stretches roughly 350 meters along the shoreline framed by steep cliffs. The soft golden sand forms a gentle swimming area tucked directly beneath the rock faces.

The nearby Fort of Almádena was built in 1632 as a coastal defense structure to protect the region from sea attacks. An earthquake in 1755 caused significant damage to the fortification.

Traditional fishing boats rest on the eastern side, serving as a reminder of the maritime past in this former fishing village along the Algarve coast.

The beach offers lifeguard services from June through September, sun lounger and umbrella rentals, and restaurants right at the shoreline. The easy access from the nearby village makes it simple to find everything needed for a day by the water.

At low tide, natural pools form among the rocks where small creatures like starfish, crabs, and small fish create their own miniature environments. These tidal pools are especially popular with children looking to explore.
