Praia de Porto de Mós

Porto de Mós beach stretches for about one kilometer and is framed by tall limestone cliffs that shield golden sand from the wind. The shoreline is broken up by several rocky outcrops that form pools of seawater when the tide comes in.

This coastal location was an important observation post for Portuguese naval forces during the Age of Discovery, watching over the ocean. Its geographic position made it a strategic location for controlling maritime trade routes.

Local families treat this beach as a weekend gathering place where the shoreline fills with people enjoying the water and sand together. The name comes from the time when fishermen moored their boats here and used it as a sheltered landing spot.

The beach has beachfront restaurants and a lifeguard on duty during summer months to keep swimmers safe. A large parking area nearby makes day trips simple and convenient.

At low tide, visitors can walk through a natural rock passage to the nearby Praia do Canavial beach and explore two beaches in one day. This hidden route is missed by many visitors since it is only accessible when the water level drops.
