Convento dos Frades Trinos

Convento dos Frades Trinos, 16th-century convent ruins in São Gonçalo de Lagos, Portugal.

Convento dos Frades Trinos is a 16th-century convent with a square layout centered around an inner courtyard. Ruins reveal the church structure with rounded arches supported by stone pillars.

The convent was completed in 1606 by the Order of the Holy Trinity. An earthquake in 1755 caused severe damage, after which it was converted into a military hospital.

The church displays Renaissance features in its exterior design and once held three altars. These architectural details made it a notable religious building in the area.

The site is reachable via National Road 125, though parking near the ruins is limited in this area. Plan extra time to find a suitable spot, especially if visiting on a busy day.

The ruins sit at a prominent position along the southern coast and once served as a navigation landmark for sailors. This elevated location made the structure visible to ships passing along the shoreline.
