Praia da Dona Ana

Praia da Dona Ana is a beach on Portugal's Algarve coast situated beneath golden limestone cliffs with turquoise water and fine golden sand forming its shoreline. The site is framed by striking rock formations that create its distinctive coastal shape.

The beach became known in the early 1900s and is connected to a nun's escape during World War I. Major restoration work took place in the early 2010s and significantly enlarged the sandy area.

The beach carries the name of a nun who sought shelter there during World War I after escaping her convent through a hidden passage. This story remains part of local memory and shapes how people perceive the place.

The beach is accessed by descending stairs from the clifftop parking area to the shoreline below. The approach requires some physical effort, so wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for a moderate climb back up.

The shore is notable for sea caves and grottoes in the surrounding rock walls that can be explored from the water. These underwater passages are accessible only by specialized boat tours and offer a distinct natural experience.
