Praia da Dona Ana, Coastal beach in Lagos, Portugal
The beach extends 300 meters along the base of golden limestone cliffs with clear turquoise waters meeting fine golden sand.
The beach underwent a major reconstruction in 2015, which doubled its sand area through a 1.8 million euro project led by Portugal's Environmental Agency.
The beach earned its name from a nun who found refuge there during World War I after escaping through a tunnel from her convent.
Visitors access the beach by descending 93 wooden steps from the clifftop parking area, which contains 70 spaces for vehicles.
The surrounding rock formations contain multiple sea caves and grottoes that can be explored through local boat tours departing from Lagos.
