Praia do Camilo

Praia do Camilo is a beach near Lagos with golden sand set between sandstone cliffs and surrounded by clear water. The beach has two separate sand sections that vary in accessibility at high tide and offers a cove with gentle waves.

The beach was shaped by erosion of sandstone and limestone over thousands of years and now displays the typical structures created by these geological processes. The steep cliffs and inner cave formed through the action of water and wind on soft rock.

The beach draws visitors from around the world who jump from the rocks or relax along the shore. The area attracts hikers who walk the coastal paths and take in the views.

The beach is reached by descending a staircase with around 200 steps from the top, which is regularly maintained. Parking is located on the cliff above, and it is wise to arrive early, especially during summer months when many visitors come.

At low tide, a natural tunnel passage through the rock face becomes walkable, leading to a hidden neighboring cove. This passage opens multiple times daily and allows visitors to explore new areas of the beach.
