The Estalagem da Serreta stands on elevated ground, featuring a complex arrangement of spaces, materials, and forms adapted to the natural terrain.
In December 1971, the inn hosted a significant summit meeting between Portuguese leader Marcelo Caetano, French President Georges Pompidou, and US President Richard Nixon.
The inn represents a prime example of Portuguese Modern Movement architecture, designed by João Correia Rebelo with consideration for local building techniques.
Located near Mata da Serreta forest area at coordinates 38.767002, -27.374491, the building currently stands in an unused condition requiring restoration.
The Regional Legislative Assembly of the Azores passed a resolution in March 2007 to evaluate the building for public interest classification.
