Church of São Nicolau, Catholic church in Porto, Portugal.

The Church of São Nicolau is a house of worship in Porto distinguished by its blue and white tiled facade with a limestone figure of the saint in an upper niche. The interior features a single nave with brick vaulting and a gilded rococo altarpiece displaying fine artistic work.

The church was built in 1671, replacing a medieval chapel that once stood on the site. Following a fire in 1762, the structure was comprehensively rebuilt with baroque and neoclassical features incorporated into its design.

The church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, protector of sailors, reflecting its importance to the former port district. Visitors can still see the gilded carvings and religious artworks that define its interior character.

The church can be visited on Monday afternoons and Wednesday through Saturday, while Sunday services are held regularly. It is helpful to check exact opening times before visiting, as these may change seasonally.

The sacristy holds a remarkable collection of metalwork including a 16th-century silver cup adorned with small bells. These precious objects were crafted by local goldsmiths and demonstrate the artistic quality of Porto's metalworking tradition.
