Fábrica Braço de Prata
Fábrica Braço de Prata is a large industrial building in Marvila that once manufactured weapons and military supplies. Today it operates as a flexible cultural venue with twelve multipurpose rooms, soaring ceilings, and sturdy brick walls that host concerts, dance classes, theatrical performances, and celebrations.
The building was constructed in the early 1900s as an artillery shell factory for the Portuguese military. Throughout the 20th century, it produced rifles, ammunition, and mortars, including versions of the German G3 rifle used by Portuguese troops, particularly during the colonial wars, before gradually declining in importance.
The factory serves as a cultural hub where local artists and musicians gather to create and perform. Its transformation from military production to arts and community space reflects how Lisbon's neighborhoods have shifted from industrial centers toward centers for creative expression and cultural exchange.
The venue is easily accessible by bus, with several lines serving the nearby area. Programming typically runs in the evenings, particularly on weekdays starting from 8 PM, with extended hours on weekends, making it an ideal spot for nighttime outings.
The venue houses an on-site restaurant called À La Carte that offers specially curated menus for private celebrations within the industrial setting. This combination of dining and historic industrial architecture creates an unusual event experience that blends culinary offerings with the building's military manufacturing past.
