Palácio dos Duques de Lafões

The Palácio dos Duques de Lafões is a neoclassical palace in Beato featuring an L-shaped layout with spacious rooms. It contains a grand ballroom with views overlooking a central courtyard located near the Tejo River.

Construction began in 1756 under architect Eugénio dos Santos following the destruction caused by the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. The palace represents part of the city's rebuilding efforts and reflects the new architectural direction that emerged after the disaster.

Inside, the rooms feature hand-painted murals and ornamental details that reflect 18th-century Portuguese artistic traditions. These decorative works remain visible today and show how people valued craftsmanship and beauty in their homes.
