The Alto de São João Cemetery is a large burial ground in eastern Lisbon with various grave types including mausoleums, individual graves, crypts, and columbaria. The grounds display different burial traditions across its extensive layout.
The cemetery was founded in 1833 during a cholera outbreak and was originally called the Eastern Cemetery of Lisbon. It was later renamed to its current designation.

The grounds are accessible on foot with paths connecting the different sections. Visitors should expect longer walks and possibly uneven surfaces in some areas.
Portugal's first cremation facility opened here in 1925 and was closed for several decades. It was reactivated in 1985 after requests from the Indian community.
