Ermida da Memória

The Ermida da Memória is a small chapel perched on the southern cliffs of Baía dos Lagosteiros as part of a larger sanctuary complex. The structure occupies this exposed clifftop location with views across the Atlantic and other buildings of the complex nearby.

The chapel traces back to a reported appearance of the Virgin Mary at this location in 1410. A religious brotherhood was established shortly after to manage and honor this place.

The chapel serves as a pilgrimage destination where visitors gather for religious ceremonies during specific months of the year. These gatherings connect the place to surrounding towns and reflect deep spiritual traditions of local communities.

The chapel is reached via marked paths that wind through the sanctuary complex to the building itself. It is wise to wear comfortable shoes, as the route crosses clifftop terrain where conditions can change with weather.
