Ermida da Memória

The Ermida da Memória stands on the southern cliff of Baía dos Lagosteiros, forming part of the Nossa Senhora do Cabo Espichel sanctuary complex.

The chapel marks the location where the image of the Virgin appeared in 1410, leading to the establishment of Confraria de Nossa Senhora do Cabo in 1432.

Regular religious ceremonies take place at the chapel, with celebrations occurring in March, April, August, and September during the círios of Azoia, Palmela, and Sesimbra.

The chapel is accessible through marked paths within the sanctuary complex and provides views of the surrounding cliffs and Atlantic Ocean.

The structure integrates with a larger religious complex that includes an 18th-century water house, an aqueduct, and a late 19th-century opera house.
