Portas da Cidade de Ponta Delgada

The City Gates form a monumental entrance at Praça de Gonçalo Velho, consisting of three stone arches of varying heights. The central arch rises higher than the flanking ones, creating a balanced composition at this public square.

The gates were built in 1783 as part of Ponta Delgada's city walls. During the 1950s, they were relocated westward to make way for a new avenue's construction.
