Praia Grande

Praia Grande is a sandy beach along Sintra's coast that stretches across a broad expanse framed by tall rock cliffs and opens toward the Atlantic Ocean. The water and sand provide ample space for swimming, surfing, and other water activities.

The southern side of the beach displays rock formations that preserve traces of dinosaurs from the distant past. These findings belong to a period more than 100 million years ago.

The beach draws surfers and water sports enthusiasts from across the region who value its consistent waves and open bay setting. Locals and visitors use the sand and water throughout the year for their daily activities.

Access to the beach is straightforward, with parking areas and walking paths along the coast. Restaurants and cafes are located nearby if you need food or refreshment.

At the northern end sits a large saltwater pool integrated into a nearby hotel that provides swimmers with a sheltered spot. This pool becomes especially useful when ocean waves run too strong.
