Parque de Serralves, Cultural park in Lordelo do Ouro e Massarelos, Portugal
Parque de Serralves is an 18-hectare park in western Porto featuring formal gardens, wooded areas, a rose garden, and a lake. Carefully designed pathways and terraces connect the different sections throughout the grounds.
French architect Jacques Gréber designed the park's layout between 1932 and 1940, merging traditional Portuguese garden design with modern principles. The site later became a National Monument and expanded to include a contemporary art museum.
The grounds serve as a meeting place where art and nature coexist, hosting regular exhibitions and performances that engage visitors with contemporary work. People experience both artistic expressions and environmental themes while moving through the space.
The park is located in Porto's western area and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 to 19:00, with extended hours until 20:00 on weekends. Wear comfortable shoes since the grounds feature pathways of varying lengths and difficulty levels.
The Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art was designed by architect Álvaro Siza Vieira and blends into the park through minimalist architecture. The museum shows how modern art spaces can integrate seamlessly into historic garden landscapes.
