Teatro Variedades, Entertainment theatre in Parque Mayer, Lisbon, Portugal
Teatro Variedades is a theatre building located in Santo António in Lisbon and features a prominent entrance portico, an elegant foyer, and an auditorium with seating for around 300 spectators. The interior spaces are arranged to accommodate theatrical performances and stage productions.
The building was designed by architect Urbano de Castro and opened in 1926 as a performance venue. A fire in 1966 caused significant damage and led to a long closure before the theatre underwent renovation and returned to hosting shows.
This venue once hosted regular variety shows that drew crowds seeking live entertainment in the heart of the city. The stage and seating still reflect the character of a space built for popular performance and public gatherings.
The venue is located near Avenida metro station and can be reached by several bus lines that serve the area. Visiting conditions and opening times may vary depending on the current schedule and upcoming productions.
After three decades of closure, the building underwent extensive renovation and was restored to function as a cultural venue once again. The return to operation represents a revival of its original purpose as a space for live performance and artistic expression.
