Cinema São Jorge, Movie theater in Santo António, Portugal

Cinema São Jorge is a movie theater on Avenida da Liberdade with three screening rooms designed to host film festivals and cultural presentations. The spaces are arranged to accommodate different types of screenings and artistic events throughout the year.

Built from 1947 on the site of the Palacete da Baronesa de Samora Correia, on the southwest side of Avenida da Liberdade, the cinema opened on 24 February 1950. Its architect, Fernando Silva, received the Prémio Municipal de Arquitectura for the design that same year. A request for classification as Imóvel de Interesse Público has been pending since 1989.

Cinema São Jorge hosts several film festivals, including the MOTELX Lisbon International Horror Film Festival, whose 6th edition was held here in 2012 and won by Manuel Pureza's "A Bruxa de Arroios". Its three halls, seating between 100 and 827 people, also stage dance and theatre performances alongside screenings.

The location sits on Avenida da Liberdade, making it easy to reach on foot or by public transport. It helps to check the program ahead of time since events and screenings vary depending on the season.

The cinema stands on the site of the Palacete da Baronesa de Samora Correia, a mansion demolished to make way for it. Its architect, Fernando Silva, received the Prémio Municipal de Arquitectura in 1950 for the design. In 2012 it hosted the 6th MOTELX Lisbon International Horror Film Festival, won by Manuel Pureza's "A Bruxa de Arroios".
