The Arco do Rosário stands as a stone gateway marking the entrance to the historic Jewish quarter in Lisbon's Alfama district.
Built between 1373 and 1374, this entrance served as a passage to the Jewish neighborhood until the expulsion decree of 1496 transformed the area.
The gate represents the intersection of Jewish and Portuguese heritage, marking centuries of Jewish presence in medieval Lisbon before religious persecution.
Located near São Miguel church, the arch connects Rua da Judiaria with multiple walking paths through Alfama's narrow medieval streets.
This entrance remains the sole surviving medieval Jewish heritage site in Lisbon, withstanding both the 1755 earthquake and subsequent urban modifications.
