Emperor Augustus commissioned this theatre in the first century BC, which expanded in 57 AD to accommodate 5000 spectators until its abandonment.
The museum exhibits architectural elements, sculptures, and an inscription dedicating the theatre to Emperor Nero, illustrating Roman entertainment traditions.
Located at Rua de São Mamede, the museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM, with last entry at 5:30 PM.
The 1755 earthquake led to the rediscovery of this theatre in 1798, which remained buried beneath Lisbon's streets for centuries.
