Praia da Morena
Praia da Morena is a long sandy beach on the Atlantic coast in Costa da Caparica, named for its darker-colored sand. The beach stretches wide and offers waves for surfers as well as shallow areas that form small pools at low tide, providing safe play spaces for children.
Costa da Caparica developed during the 20th century as a popular beach destination for visitors from Lisbon. The beach later earned Blue Flag and Gold Flag awards for water quality and cleanliness standards.
The name Morena refers to the darker sand found along this stretch of coast. Families and surfers gather here throughout the day, making it a social meeting point where people of all ages come to spend time together.
A small coastal train called Transpraia connects the main beaches during summer months, making a visit practical without a car. Parking areas are available nearby, along with beach cafes and restaurants for refreshments throughout the day.
At low tide, shallow water pools form between rocks and sand at this beach, something visitors easily overlook but which becomes a major adventure for children. These natural pools offer a safe place to explore and play that vanishes again when the tide returns.
