Education City Stadium, Football stadium in Education City, Qatar
Education City Stadium is a football arena in Al Rayyan Municipality, Qatar, whose outer walls consist of triangular panels forming an irregular pattern. The seating rows rise in several tiers and surround a pitch covered by a cantilevered roof structure.
Construction began in 2016 and the opening took place in June 2020, in time for the 2022 World Cup. The facility was built on land that previously served as part of an academic campus.
The outer shell takes the form of a jagged crystal whose facets shift with daylight. This geometric envelope connects with neighboring educational institutions and creates a place where research and sport exist side by side.
The arena holds around 45,000 spectators and is accessible through several entrances distributed around the building. Shuttle buses link the site with nearby metro stations, and the surrounding area provides parking spaces for visitors arriving by car.
After the tournament, the number of seats will be reduced to 25,000, and the removed parts will be used to build sports facilities in other countries. This reuse of construction material follows a plan to promote sustainable infrastructure in regions with limited resources.
