Sfântu Gheorghe

Sfântu Gheorghe is the county capital of Covasna, Romania, located along the Olt River between the Baraolt and Bodoc Mountains. The city sits at an elevation of 555 meters (1,821 feet).

The settlement began as a Daco-Roman site and grew when Hungarian Magyars arrived during the medieval period. These early influences shaped the character of the place.

The Székely National Museum displays collections from different periods, including pottery and architectural pieces that reflect the region's layered cultural history. These objects show how people lived and built here over time.

Direct train connections link the city to Bucharest, Brașov, and Cluj-Napoca through the central railway station. Multiple bus lines also serve the area for regional travel.

The mountain meadows around the city host about 40 orchid species found nowhere else. These rare plants are a special feature of the local natural environment.
