Predeal, town in Brașov County, Romania
Predeal is a town in the Southern Carpathians located at about 3,900 feet (1,200 meters) and surrounded by forests. The settlement spreads along a mountain slope with traditional buildings, hiking trails, and a position that allows for both summer and winter outdoor activities.
The town developed in the 1800s as a mountain village and later grew into a resort thanks to a railroad connection. This link to the outside world shaped the way the town developed and set its role in the region.
Predeal takes its name from an ancient forest and maintains this connection to nature in its everyday character. The town shows its roots through traditional wooden houses and tree-lined streets where residents move at a pace shaped by the seasons and mountain life.
The best time to visit is from May to September when the trails are clear and temperatures are comfortable. In winter the roads can be challenging to drive, but the snow-covered landscape appeals to those interested in winter sports.
The town sits on the main mountain pass between Wallachia and Transylvania and became a stopping point for travelers because of this strategic location. This in-between position between two regions still shapes the character of the place and how it welcomes visitors.
