Neajlov River, River tributary in southern Romania
The Neajlov is a river crossing the flat plains of southern Romania, flowing eastward for roughly 186 kilometers before meeting the Argeș River. A series of reservoirs along its path stores water for farming, drinking supplies, and industrial use across the region.
The river witnessed a major military clash in the 1590s when local forces clashed with invading armies along its banks, marking a turning point in the region. Since then, the focus shifted toward using the water for agriculture and peaceful development.
The river is woven into the fabric of rural communities that have settled along its course for generations, with local ways of living shaped by its presence. Water from the flow supports farming and daily life in the surrounding villages and agricultural areas.
The river and its reservoirs can be viewed from various spots along the river banks and dam installations, offering different perspectives of the waterway. Spring and autumn months offer the most comfortable conditions for exploring the area on foot or by local transport.
The river basin covers a vast drainage area with numerous soil variations that support different forms of land use and farming approaches across multiple counties. These soil differences create varying conditions that shape what grows where and how the land is managed throughout the watershed.
