Monumentul eroilor căzuți în primul război mondial

Monumentul eroilor căzuți în primul război mondial, War memorial monument on Theodor Pallady Boulevard in Bucharest, Romania.

Description

The Monument of Heroes Fallen in the First World War stands at the intersection of Theodor Pallady Boulevard and Nicolae Grigorescu Boulevard in Sector 3 of Bucharest. The composition features a bronze soldier in attack position mounted on a cubic concrete base covered with marble and decorated with bronze relief panels showing combat scenes.

History

The memorial was erected in 1932 under the initiative of Mayor Constantin M. Brânzoi to commemorate soldiers from the area who died during World War I. This construction took place during a period when Bucharest built numerous memorials to honor those lost in the war years.

Culture

The inscribed plaques on three sides of the pedestal bear the names of Orthodox soldiers from Dudești who gave their lives for their country. These engravings turn this memorial into a record written in stone and bronze, keeping alive the memory of people whose names might otherwise fade.

Practical

The site is easy to locate once you identify the intersection of the two main boulevards where it stands. The memorial is accessible at any time without special requirements, making it straightforward to view the sculpture and read the inscriptions on the pedestral plaques.

Did you know?

The sculpture was created by Romanian artist Spiridon Georgescu, a name little remembered today despite his influence on the city's appearance. The detailed bronze relief scenes depicting hand-to-hand combat display an artistic intensity that visitors often overlook when passing by.
