Ciorogârla-Samurcășești monastery, Historic monastery in Ciorogârla, Romania.
Ciorogârla-Samurcășești monastery is a church complex with three altar areas built from brick and stone construction. The structure consists of connected sections that form a unified religious complex.
Constantin Samurcas founded this institution in 1808 on his private land in the village. After earthquake damage in 1940, the church was rebuilt in the following years with structural reinforcements.
The interior images depict saints and biblical stories painted in a style reflecting Orthodox traditions practiced in this region. Visitors can observe how the religious art connects to customs observed by the local community.
The complex is open to visitors year-round and holds regular religious services throughout the week. Attendance during major Orthodox celebrations offers insight into how the community gathers for important spiritual occasions.
The interior paintings were completed by artist Gheorghe Tattarescu in 1870 and remain an outstanding example of religious artwork from that era. His decorative work demonstrates the skill level of Orthodox church painters working in this period.
