Castrum Bersobis, Roman military fort in Berzovia, Romania.

Castrum Bersobis is a Roman military fort near Berzovia whose foundation walls and defensive ditches remain visible today. The site spreads across a significant area and contains building traces that show how Romans organized such settlements.

The Legio IV Flavia Felix built this fortress around 108 AD as a control point for the region. It operated for only about ten years before being abandoned.

The fortress served as a key hub for Roman military operations in the region and attracted traders and craftspeople who settled nearby. The remains reveal how a purely military post gradually became a busier place with civilian structures mixed in.

The site lies in open countryside and is best explored during dry weather, as ditches and depressions can become slippery when wet. Sturdy footwear and plenty of time are recommended since features spread across a large area.

The location was strategically positioned at a crossroads connecting Roman mining areas in the region. This favorable position allowed it to become an important trading hub despite its brief use as a military installation.
