Grădina Icoanei

Grădina Icoanei is a green park in central Bucharest featuring winding paths, fountains, and sculptures arranged throughout its carefully designed layout. The space includes different sections for walking and resting under mature trees.

The park was created between 1870 and 1873, transforming a wooded area and pond into a public garden designed by an architect. This development was part of Bucharest's modernization during the 19th century.

The name comes from an icon that was once sacred to the local community in this area. Visitors can see how the green space serves as a gathering place where neighbors spend time together on warm days.

The park is easy to walk through during warm months, though it has character even when rainy or cold. After recent renovations, the paths are paved and facilities are accessible to visitors.

A small brook that once flowed through this spot came from a much larger pond that covered the area before the city developed here. This water system shaped the land for centuries before urban growth transformed it.
