Theodor Aman Museum, Art museum in central Bucharest, Romania.
The Theodor Aman Museum occupies a residence built in 1868 in central Bucharest and displays over 200 artworks throughout its rooms. The interior features mural paintings and ornate wooden panels that define the character of each space.
The building was designed in 1868 by painter Theodor Aman and sculptor Karl Storck, initially serving as both residence and workshop. After 1891 the state took over the property and eventually converted it into a museum.
The collection displays paintings of everyday life in Romania alongside the artist's personal belongings and workshop tools from the 19th century. Visitors see how a painter actually worked and lived during that era.
The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday and located downtown, easily accessible on foot. Plan at least an hour to comfortably explore the rooms and artworks.
This was Romania's first combined artist residence and workshop building, preserving original decor and furnishings from 1868. The integration of living quarters with a functional studio under one roof is rarely found in this form today.
