Lázár Castle

Lázár Castle is a medieval fortress in Lăzarea, Romania, featuring multiple towers and a blend of Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance architectural styles. The stone structures display the characteristic defensive construction developed over several building periods.

Construction of the castle began in the 16th century and was significantly expanded by the Lázár de Szárhegy family in the early 17th century. This expansion phase reinforced its defenses and increased the overall size of the structure.

The castle now hosts regional exhibitions and events that present the traditions and heritage of Harghita County and Transylvania. Visitors can discover local crafts and cultural characteristics of the area displayed throughout the rooms.

The castle is located in Lăzarea village and can be easily reached via the main road, with parking available near the entrance. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as exploring the stone structure involves walking on potentially uneven surfaces.

Despite its long history, the castle has retained its original defensive elements such as thick stone walls and observation points from the 16th century. These defensive features allow visitors to understand the practical demands of medieval warfare.
