The Red Lake and Bicaz Gorge feature towering limestone cliffs reaching heights of 300 meters along a narrow mountain passage in the Hasmas Mountains.
The Red Lake formed in 1838 following a significant earthquake measuring 6.9 magnitude, which caused a landslide blocking the natural flow of mountain streams.
Local residents named different sections of the gorge, including the Gates of Hell and Hell's Throat, reflecting the dramatic natural formations in the area.
The reserve contains 15 marked hiking trails connecting various viewpoints, with the main route from the lake to Bicaz Dam taking 50 minutes by car.
Pine tree stumps emerge from the lake's surface, remnants of the original forest that was submerged during the natural dam formation in the 19th century.
