Cascada Duruitoarea, Nature reserve in Ceahlău Massif, Romania.
Cascada Duruitoarea is a waterfall in the Ceahlău Massif with two separate sections, with the upper drop approximately 20 meters tall. The water forms a fan-like pattern over rocks in the lower section.
Water erosion slowly carved through the conglomerate and sandstone rocks over time. Freeze-thaw cycles contributed to creating the vertical columns, towers, and deep channels visible today.
The name comes from the loud, steady roar of falling water that echoes through the mountains. You can hear this distinctive sound long before you arrive at the cascade itself.
The routes to the waterfall start from Durău Resort and follow marked hiking trails through the mountains. The path can be slippery after rain and the terrain is uneven, so sturdy footwear is helpful.
The water comes mainly from the Fântâna Rece spring near the alpine plateau and flows year-round. This means the cascade never runs dry, even during the driest months.
