Mănăstirea Cârnu, Orthodox monastery in Tega, Romania.
Mănăstirea Cârnu is an Orthodox monastery in Tega, located in a forested area of the Buzău region and encompassing multiple buildings with traditional Romanian Orthodox sacred architecture. The complex sits in the quiet landscape of the Buzau Valley and displays the typical features of religious settlements in the area.
The monastery was established in 1546 by Prince Mircea Ciobanul and his wife Chiajna, making it one of the oldest religious settlements in the Buzau Valley. It was later closed during secularization reforms and underwent restoration after 1990.
The monastery church displays religious paintings and traditional Orthodox iconography dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel. These sacred images reflect the spiritual traditions that have been practiced here for centuries.
The monastery can be reached from the DN 10 Buzau-Brasov road by following signs toward Zaharesti, Maguricea, and Tega via the DC 72 route. The area is heavily forested and somewhat remote, so having your own transportation is helpful for visiting.
The site existed for a long time as only a church building after most monastery structures were abandoned during state secularization measures. The restoration that followed gradually brought back the religious complex, with the church itself having preserved continuity at the location.
