Стэнишоарский монастырь

Stânișoara Monastery sits at the foot of the Cozia massif and features a main church dedicated to Saint George alongside a parsonage church of Holy Trinity. These two structures form the core of the monastic complex on the grounds.

The monastery took its current form through extensive rebuilding between 1903 and 1908 under Bishop Gherasim Timuș and Abbot Nicandru Manu. A fire later destroyed the parsonage church, which was rebuilt between 1936 and 1940.

The monastery serves as an active religious center where Orthodox Christian services take place regularly, drawing both local devotees and pilgrims throughout the year. Daily spiritual practices and ceremonies here reflect the faith that shapes community life in the area.

The monastery can be reached on foot from CFR Pausa-Caciulata station, approximately 6 kilometers away, or from CFR Turnu station, roughly 4 kilometers to the east. Visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes and allow time for the hike.

The complex was designed by architect Debora Apoloni, a name rarely seen in Romanian architectural history of that period. This unusual choice shaped the appearance and structural quality of the main church in ways worth observing.
