Cozia, National park in Vâlcea County, Romania
Cozia is a massif located in Vâlcea County between the Lotru and Căpățânii mountain ranges. Deep valleys carved by the Olt River run through this protected landscape, creating diverse terrain and water features.
The massif became a protected reserve in 1966 through government decision and was later designated as a national park. This designation aimed to preserve an important natural area within the southern Carpathians.
The park administration collaborates with local communities to maintain traditional land management practices while protecting the natural heritage of the region.
Access to the area is possible via the DN7/E81 road network that passes through the region. Nearby towns of Brezoi and Călimănești provide lodging options and amenities for visitors.
The area contains two ancient beech forests recognized as part of a UNESCO World Heritage network of primeval Carpathian forests. These woods represent rare examples of untouched forest landscapes in Europe.
