Buila-Vânturarița National Park, National park in Vâlcea County, Romania.
Buila-Vânturarița is a national park in the Căpățânii Mountains covering about 4,200 hectares of protected land with limestone ridges and dense forests. The landscape features steep mountain formations, gorges, and varied plant life spanning different elevations.
The park was established in 2004 through government decree and officially recognized in 2005 as a protected area. This designation made the region one of the country's significant nature reserves for mountain landscapes.
Several Orthodox monasteries border the park, including Bistritza Monastery and the Păpușa Hermitage with their distinctive religious architecture. These sites shape the spiritual character of the region and welcome visitors.
The park can be entered from several locations including Costești, Bistrița, and Pietreni, from which hikes into the interior are possible. Nearby villages offer accommodations and basic services for visitors.
The park contains over 100 karst caves within its limestone formations, but only two remain open for visitors. These underground systems display striking geological formations and serve as habitat for various animal species.
